Two apps, two audiences
One for a theatre and its audience. One for children and the grown-ups who support them.

Harlequin Theatre Mobile App
For The Harlequin Theatre, Northwich
What's on, ticket booking through the theatre's box office, directions, membership and auditions, all in one place. Cannings Digital builds and publishes the app; the theatre looks after the content.

Animated Social Stories
In development · for children and their grown-ups
Short cartoon stories that show, step by step, what happens in everyday situations, like home time, the dentist, a haircut or a fire alarm. They play offline, and every story doubles as a set of flip cards, like the laminated cards on a lanyard.

How the apps are made
Calm, private, accessible
-
Private by default
No advertising, no tracking across other apps and websites, and no personal data collected unless a feature truly needs it. The Harlequin app collects none at all.
-
Accessible from the start
Clear type, VoiceOver labels, larger text sizes and Reduce Motion are part of the design from the first sketch, not added at the end.
-
Calm by design
No flashing, no streaks, no points and no pressure to keep tapping. A good app helps, then gets out of the way.
About
A one-person studio in Cheshire
I'm Paul Cannings, a software developer based in Cheshire. Cannings Digital is the name I design, build and publish my own apps under.
The work sits somewhere between the theatre and the family kitchen table: tools for a local stage, and visual, step-by-step stories for children who benefit from knowing what to expect in everyday situations.
If you have a question about one of the apps, email me. I read and answer every message myself.
